MyHope

Giving the gift of education and hope

MyHope was founded by individuals of unique perspective; that is to say, they have been personally inspired by the striking juxtaposition that is the beauty and poverty of Ethiopia. For those who have not been to a developing African country, it is often difficult to truly imagine the kind of difficulties people face there on a daily basis. Think, just for a moment, where you would be without your education. How would your life be different if you were illiterate? How diminished would your sense of self-worth be? Could you truly advocate for yourself against a multitude of people who wish to cheat and manipulate you? Life without education is, simply put, extremely difficult. Our wish is not to have these questions compel you to a sense of guilt; rather, we wish for you to join in and help support the children of Ethiopia. MyHope works to allow children who were born in poverty, and thereby miss out on many, if not all, educational opportunities, improve their lives and thereby help people to help themselves. To do this, it is essential that we provide for them not only an EDUCATION, but also HOPE.

Our desire is to strengthen families who are struggling in their daily lives. In giving parents financial support that they would not otherwise receive, many opportunities will be afforded to their children. They will, for example, not be forced to work as a shoe shiner or street merchant to help make ends meet. By this, children will have the opportunity to go to school and not be abandoned to a cycle of uneducated poverty. It is in this that the goals of giving both education and hope are, in essence, the same. A child in a state of desperation really has no chance to escape their life of poverty. We want to not only nurture the individual talent of each sponsored child, we also would like to see the same children become the future leaders and professionals of their wonderful country. Just imagine, with the proper encouragement and support, a child that would previously be set in a life of subsistence could become a doctor or a lawyer — in many cases, this is the dream of a sponsored child! Your donation or sponsorship of a child will help not only us fulfill our dream, but it will also give invaluable aid to these children. This work is truly wonderful, and rewarding in a way that is truly special. It is a conviction that we hope to share with you in the near future.

On this website, you can learn about our many projects in detail. With a sponsorship, for example, of 27 Euros per month, you give an Ethiopian child an education and offer him or her the chance to escape a life of poverty. MyHope also is working to construct a day center in Addis Ababa for furthering enrichment and hygiene opportunities for the children and their families. More specifically, many of our sponsored children lack access to showers and toilets. With this development, the quality of life of our sponsored families could be greatly ameliorated.

MyHope is comprised of a highly motivated team of volunteers who work every day toward our goals. We appreciate any donation or sponsorship you put forth, but most of all, we appreciate your support, encouragement, and conviction for these children. We hope, in time, to be able to enrich the lives of all children in difficult circumstances in Addis Ababa, and this is only possible with your help. Sometimes what seems to be impossible can, when we work together, be accomplished. MyHope was born from a spontaneous idea on the terrace of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and since then, has rapidly found sponsors and support throughout the world. Our hearts are full, our dreams know no limits. Together, we wish to be a movement of hope.
